Deep Listening Workshop w/ Amy Melissa Reed
July 27 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm$10
In this workshop we will focus on tuning up our body’s relationship to listening. The practice includes bodywork, sonic meditations, interactive performance, listening to the sounds of daily life, nature, one’s own thoughts, imagination and dreams. It cultivates a heightened awareness of the sonic environment, both external and internal, and promotes experimentation, improvisation, collaboration, playfulness and other creative skills vital to personal and community growth.
We will introduce Deep Listening Pieces and earlier Sonic Meditations of the late composer Pauline Oliveros (1932-2016). She founded “Deep Listening ®,” which came from her childhood fascination with sounds and from her works in concert music with composition, improvisation and electro-acoustics. She described Deep Listening as “a way of listening in every possible way to everything possible to hear no matter what you are doing. There is more to listening than meets the ear!”
“Through Pauline Oliveros and Deep Listening
I finally know what harmony is…It’s about
the pleasure of making music.”
–John Cage 1989
This workshop aspires to facilitate across boundaries and across abilities, musicians and non-musicians and children of all ages.
