Women & Allies Music Night
June 6 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Q: Why “Women & Allies Music Night?”
A: We feel that women are still marginalized in the culture of music creation and performance.
This semi-monthly gathering creates a safe, supportive, non-competitive and non-judgmental space for women to express themselves through playing musical instruments and singing.
Q: I’m not exactly a woman, can I still come?
A: Why, sure! We want to encourage musical self-expression for everyone. We do, however, expect you to hold space for the women/women-identifying folks in attendance and contribute to an environment of respect, positive reinforcement, and cooperative creativity.
Q: I don’t play an instrument, can I still come?
A: YES, please! This is a safe and encouraging place for you to experiment with new things. We have lots of instruments for you to try in the library. We’ll have a bunch of stuff set up and ready for you to play. Even if you do currently play or sing, this is the time where you can try something new without fear of judgment.
Q: I’m still confused… is this a “jam” session?
A: Well, yeah. Since not everyone can read music and not everyone is proficient at an instrument, our music nights are often pretty freeform. However, if you want to try out a new song you’re working on, would like to teach us a favorite song, or… i don’t know what else, that’s welcome too!
